NYT theme clue: "Autumn walk in the woods" · Edited by Tracy Bennett

Today's Strands board is a walk through autumn woods: every theme word is something you would find underfoot or overhead among the trees, from a fallen acorn by the path to the leaves still hanging on above you. The spangram names that whole carpet of woodland litter in eleven letters, stretched across the full board from corner to corner. Three hints first, then the spangram and all seven theme words waiting behind the tap below, ready when you are.

Hints, in order

Hint 0 of 3

Hint 1 of 3

Stay literal: the clue means exactly what it says. Every theme word is a physical thing on or under the trees - seeds, sticks, shed skins of corn and corn-like cones, soft green patches and fallen foliage.

Hint 2 of 3

The seven words are ACORN, BRANCH, HUSK, LEAVES, MOSS, PINECONE and TWIG. Between them they cover the ground: what fell, what dropped it, and what grows in the damp between.

Hint 3 of 3 - Spangram

The spangram is eleven letters and reads as two everyday words joined together: where you are standing for the whole walk, named for the trees around you.
