About Clue Cache

Daily hints and answers for six NYT word and logic games - Launched October 25, 2026

Clue Cache is a hints-first site for the daily New York Times games. Every morning we publish one page per game - Wordle, Connections, Strands, the Mini Crossword, Spelling Bee and Pips - and every page is built the same way: hints that climb from a gentle nudge to a near-giveaway, with the answer itself hidden until you tap to reveal it. No spoilers in headlines, ever.

Where the answers come from

Puzzle data comes from the same public data feeds the games themselves load from, fetched fresh for each new day. Before a page is published, its numbers are checked, not just copied: Spelling Bee scores are recomputed from the day's full word list, every Pips solution is re-checked region by region against the rules printed on its board, and the Wordle answer plus at least one other game are cross-checked against an independent publisher for that day. If a check fails, the page is held rather than published on faith.

Older Spelling Bee pages in the archive follow a stricter rule still: a historical Bee page is published only when two independent archives agree on the exact word list, letter for letter, and the recomputed maximum score matches. Dates that fail that test stay unpublished and are logged as held, not filled in from a single source.

Tools, word lists and crossword clues

The solvers and word lists are built on the SCOWL spell-checker dictionaries. The Spelling Bee Solver searches 113,515 words, the Wordle Solver 6,677 five-letter words, and the anagram, unscrambler, pattern and word finder tools share a combined list of 114,435 words. Each tool page states its limits plainly: the NYT edits its accepted word lists by hand, so a solver can miss a word the game accepts and can return a word the game rejects. For a specific day, that day's page is the official record.

The crossword clue pilot works on the same two-source discipline. It holds 5,000 clue and answer pairs, and a pair is included only where two independently compiled corpora of published puzzles agree on it. Before launch, a random sample of 30 pairs was hand-checked against published puzzle records from a third source: all 30 matched. Frequency and last-seen figures on clue pages come from one named corpus and are labelled as such on the page.

Corrections

Mistakes get fixed on the page where they appeared, as soon as they are verified against the source data. Our morning checks compare every live answer page against its source for that day, and the archive backfill now running toward January 1, 2026 applies the same gates as the daily pages, so an old date is held to the same standard as today's.
