Daily Ladder

Puzzle #1 - Thursday, October 29, 2026 - A new ladder every day

The Daily Ladder is our own word game, built here at Clue Cache: one ladder a day. Start on the first word and climb to the target by changing exactly one letter at a time. Every step has to be a real word, and the word never changes length. Par is the shortest possible climb, proven against the full word list - match it and your route was perfect.

Today's ladder climbs from COLD to WARM, par 4. Loading the game...

How to play

Type the next word and tap Add step. It has to differ from the word above it in exactly one letter and be a word from the game's dictionary - the game checks both as you play, and a step that breaks either rule is refused with the reason. Undo takes back your last step. Give up ends the day and shows one shortest route up. Your streak counts consecutive days solved, and the last seven days stay playable: solve a missed day late and it still counts for that day. Progress and streaks are stored only in this browser.

About the Daily Ladder

The word ladder is the puzzle Lewis Carroll invented in 1877 under the name Doublets. Ours deals a new ladder every morning on Eastern time, drawn from a rotation of 120 ladders. Every ladder's shortest path is proven against a 9,953-word dictionary, and every word on a solution path was read one by one by a human editor, so no obscure or crossword-only words appear on a path. The six daily games we cover with hints start from today's board.
