How scoring works
A four-letter word scores 1 point. A longer word scores one point per letter. A pangram scores its length plus 7 bonus points. Genius takes 70 percent of the total points on the board, rounded down. Finding every word makes you a Queen Bee.
About this word list
The list is built from SCOWL, the spell-checker word lists, plus every word the NYT has accepted in the puzzles in our archive. In testing against the 387 accepted words in our October 19 to 27, 2026 archive, the base list found 91 percent of them, and it returns some extra words the NYT does not accept - the NYT edits its list by hand, and no outside list matches it exactly.
