NYT theme clue: "Getting the job done" · Edited by Tracy Bennett

Today's Strands board is a personnel file: five theme words, and every one names the people who do the work - from the crew as a whole to the department that hires them, which is also the spangram, stretched across the board in two plain words joined into one.

Hint 1 of 3

Take the clue literally: every theme word is about the people who get a job done - who they are, what they are called, and the office that hires them.

Hint 2 of 3

The five words are LABOR, PEOPLE, PERSONNEL, STAFF and WORKFORCE. Three of them name the workers as a group, one names the employees of a single place, and one is the formal word for all the staff on file.

Hint 3 of 3 - Spangram

The spangram is fourteen letters and reads as two everyday words joined together: the department every company has for hiring, paying and looking after its people.

Spangram and theme words

The spangram first, then all five theme words.
