NYT theme clue: "In the blink of an eye" · Edited by Tracy Bennett

Today's Strands board is all about speed: every theme word is a way of moving very fast, from a camera's flash going off to a car streaking past you on the road late at night. The spangram asks the question every one of those words answers, in thirteen letters stretched across the whole board from edge to edge. Three hints first, then the spangram and all seven theme words waiting behind the tap below it for you.

Hints, in order

Hint 1 of 3

Stay literal about pace: the clue is about things that happen fast. Every theme word is a verb for sudden, rapid movement - or, in one case, the sudden burst of light a camera makes.

Hint 2 of 3

The seven words are FLASH, HURTLE, RUSH, STREAK, WHIZ, WHOOSH and ZOOM. Between them they cover the ground at speed: what darts, what barrels, what streaks past and what blurs by your ear.

Hint 3 of 3 - Spangram

The spangram is thirteen letters and reads as three everyday words joined together: the impatient question you ask someone who is holding everything up.

Spangram and theme words

The spangram first, then all seven theme words.
